  7. Thank you for trying The Market Analyzer for Windows
  8. (MAWIN).
  9.  
  10. Reinstallation/Upgrade Notice:
  11.  
  12. First, if you are upgrading, or re-installing, it is
  13. a good practive to backup all MAWIN files first.
  14.  
  15. When upgrading, we recommend installing to the same
  16. directory as you are currently using. Your 
  17. Authorization Code will still be good for the
  18. same release number (1.X, 2.X, etc.), and if you
  19. install to the same directory, over your old files
  20. it will preserve a file called register.dat, and 
  21. you will not need to re-enter registration information.
  22.  
  23. If you have historical quote files (*.day) you want
  24. to keep, you may either select custom installation,
  25. and de-select "data files", which will avoid over-
  26. writing of your files with installation files of
  27. the same name.  This is an advantage if the MAWIN
  28. installation is a few weeks old, and will therefore
  29. contain history files not updated in that amount of
  30. time.  But the installation may also contain new or
  31. enhanced history files which you will want, so the
  32. best option may be to save your files, and then do
  33. a full installation, and see what you get.

  36. Overview:
  37.  
  38. MAWIN is a program for downloading, viewing,
  39. and analyzing historical stock quote data from free
  40. sites on the Internet, and includes several data
  41. files including the DJIA historical quotes by day
  42. since 1901!  It is preset to certain useful sites,
  43. and is user configurable to any site.  MAWIN makes
  44. its connection to the Internet through Windows Sockets.
  45.  
  46. This copy is a pre-release, marketing and technical
  47. test version.  It has been in reliable, private use
  48. for some time, but is just being made available to the
  49. public.
  50.  
  51. To optimize performance, the program has initially been
  52. targeted at Windows 95 and a Pentium-Compatible
  53. processor. As it has been compiled for these targets,
  54. use in other environments is not recommended.
  55.  
  56. It has been tested on systems with 16 and 32 megabytes
  57. of RAM.  Use on a system with less RAM should work
  58. fine, but has not been tested.
  59.  
  60. You will need about 6 Megabytes of disk space, and
  61. this will grow as your collection of historical stock
  62. quotes grows.  (Frequent backup is a good idea.)
  63.  
  64. We would be pleased if you would evaluate the program
  65. for a free trial period of up to 90 days, after which
  66. it will become inoperative if you have not completed
  67. registration.
  68.  
  69. Like other programs distributed electronically, during
  70. an introductory period, the program will be designed
  71. to have a limited lifetime, in case this version needs
  72. to be recalled for technical or legal reasons.  Initially,
  73. this version will operate until April 1, 1997.  The
  74. limited lifetime will likely be lengthened or eliminated
  75. in future releases.

  77. You are encouraged to register electroncially.  There
  78. is a fee, which is minimal, and will be considered a
  79. non-refundable handling fee.  The program will be
  80. considered free (at this time), but while continued
  81. support or availability is planned, it cannot be
  82. guaranteed.

  84. If reaction to this version is favorable, when it
  85. expires, a newer version will be available for download,
  86. and either your valid registration information or your
  87. trial period (if any remains) will still apply.  Given
  88. sufficient interest, release version 1.X will be available
  89. in a few months, and with a larger number of operating
  90. features.
  91.  
  92. If you register during this pre-release period, your
  93. registration will be valid through and including all
  94. version 1.X releases.  The registration cost of version
  95. 1.X has not yet been determined, although the plan is to
  96. automate the registration process to the greatest extent
  97. possible, and keep the cost of future releases low.

  99. Further information will be presented as you run the
  100. program for the 1st time, and through built-in help.
  101.  
  102. There are no known bugs in MAWIN at this time.
  103.  
  104. However, during installation, avoid the use of long file
  105. names for your path, or you may need to edit the
  106. Startup Directory in the properties of your Icons
  107. in the Mawin folder.  (This is a glitch in the
  108. installation utility used; unresolved at this time.)
  109. If you accept the default directory, this problem will
  110. be avoided.

  112. You may want to move these setup files to a temporary
  113. directory.  You will no longer need them once installation
  114. is complete.
